Re: was Henna - now Hair Growth/Conditioning 3/1/2006 2:51:41 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Hi Everyone, I just joined the forum after Mel's suggestion. I really love henna and any info on hair :D My husband's actually Arab and I American and we live in the U.S. Henna is a big part of his culture as well and it's usually done for holidays and special events. I've been wanting to learn to do it myself because where we live you don't have access to a large number of mendi artists. How do most women in India learn how to do it? Is it something that's just passed down in the ...

Thanks so much for the link. Great information I agree. I learned about the difference of fragarance vs essential oils when I first started making my own hair products. I've learned to stay away from the products in the plastic bottles, but it is definitely a good reminder. I will have to check that link out and try the hair recipes. I have no idea how to make my own shampoo, but The Body Shop has an unscented one that I can use. They also have massage oils and other things I like to ...

Suggestions for everyday Salwar Kameez 1/29/2008 9:01:39 AM   (Total replies: 1)
Hi Ladies, I know I don't come on here often, but I try to come back and read any updates. Quick update on me. My husband and I did have our nikah (islamic ceremony) but we are waiting on the civil ceremony. We decided to settle here in the U.S. instead of Germany where he is living now. So we'll be starting the horrible journey towards U.S. immigration in the coming months :| Anyway....I have a question. I've been trying to figure out what types of salwar kameez are for ...

Hi Ladies....BIG update 9/3/2007 4:30:42 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Hello Ladies, It's been quite some time since I've been on this forum. If some of you remember I am the American muslim married to an Egyptian muslim but love Indian clothing and food hehehe. Well there's big changes going on in my life which explains why I've been away. My Egyptian husband and I have since divorced for numerous reasons. I am now engaged to be married to a man from Kashmir. He is living in Germany and we are getting married there next month and will settle there. ...

Best henna for dark skin? 9/3/2007 5:02:05 PM   (Total replies: 0)
Hello Ladies, If you've read in the marriage section, I am getting married next month :D Does anyone have any tips for the best henna and additional additivies to use to ensure a dark stain for ladies who have darker skin? I'm black american and probably the color of milk chocolate hehehe. Not to mention the summer sun has probably darkened me a shade or two more, lol. I really want my henna to look nice for my wedding. It obviously shows up on the palms of my hands, but not always on ...

Re: Long Hair Woes! 9/3/2007 5:14:35 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Hi Ladies, I found this website when someone was asking for nice hair accessories on another group I belong to. Perhaps this will help with giving you ideas on how to style your lovely locks :) http://www.dressytresses.com/hair/gallery/ Some are a little complicated for every day use and some quite frankly look just plain weird, lol. However there are a few nice ones on there that I'm sure you could try out. Na'imah

Half Saris?? 2/9/2007 3:31:16 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Hey Ladies, It's been a while since I posted here so a quick intro before I ask my question. I'm Na'imah (black American) married to an Egyptian. I've always loved Indian style clothing and hubby seems to only tolerate it hehehe. I guess he's just used to the traditional Arab clothing instead. We're both muslim so I usually have to tailor my clothing a bit for a more modest/loose style. Melanie has been great in helping me to do that for myself and my daughter :) Btw, Melanie I finally ...

Thanks Tabby and Mel!! Sorry I'm late in replying. I'm back in college again so much of my time is spent studying and writing papers :| Melanie, I just emailed you a picture of Nadia in her lengha choli. I'm so pleased with it, and like I said, she's always trying to find an excuse to wear it so I'm sure she's pleased too, lol. Thanks for the advise about not wearing the half sari. I'll either go with the automatic sari or actually buy a video to teach me how to do it right. ...

Re: Patterns for salwar kameez 3/8/2006 6:13:48 PM   (Total replies: 1)
Hey Ladies, Congrats to April and her family :D May this baby be a coolness to his/her parents eye. I really enjoyed this thread and the suggestions on the patterns. I don't sew in the least bit, but I have a friend who might be interested in them. I'm curious about these paitala salwar. Desire or anyone else would you happen to have a picture of what they look like? I can't remember who's from WI, but so am I. My friends rave about Devon St in Chicago too, but I've never had the ...
