My Japanese Grandmother's natural beauty secrets 6/2/2005 5:01:06 PM   (Total replies: 3)
For anyone out there looking for natural beauty secrets, or vegetarians seeking "no-kill, non-animal tested" beauty products I can tell you my own grandmother's natural beauty secrets that have kept her looking 20 years younger than her age (83). She has been vegetarian for over 40 years, doesn't smoke and does yoga every day. She always uses natural virgin olive oil to cleanse her face instead of cold cream. (Swab it on a cotton ball and wipe you face clean of dirt or makeup). WIpe ...

Re: Non-Indians Wearing Indian Clothing 5/23/2005 6:05:37 PM   (Total replies: 2)
Thanks to everyone for your insightful posts. My boyfriend suggested I wear a sari but I too thought that some might take offense to it, even though I have always wanted to wear one since I was a little girl. I grew up very near the local Indian neighborhood and used to pass by the "Sari Palace" store and look longingly at the beautiful clothes. Now that I know it will be well received by most I will definitely buy one (or two or three!). My questions to you all are: 1) Are there ...

Oh Thank you Evergreesony! These links are helpful, especially the "how to" instructions. I feel alot more confident about this now. Another question, what are the best shoes and purse style to wear with these? Also, can I wear Mehndi just for decoration or is it only for holidays and celebrations? Thanks!

Children of Mixed Marriage 5/24/2005 10:25:49 AM   (Total replies: 1)
Does anyone here have children that are mixed Indian and something else? I am a mix of Japanese and German (American) and mf BF is Hindu-Punjabi (American) and I am wondering what experiences people have had with their mixed children. Do you raise them in Indian culture and language? How are they received by Indian children? Caucasian children? Does the Indian family side accept them? Treat them the same? How are they received when traveling in India? Any other potential ...

Major Holidays for Hindus 6/14/2005 2:37:23 PM   (Total replies: 1)
What are the major holidays in Hindu religion? Do they differ from north to south? How are they celebrated? What is the respectful way to observe them as a non-hindu?

Thank all, for your input. I am still searching but I am glad to know that there are so many people out there accepting of other religions. This is the only site i have come across where these topics do not erupt into conflict, and for that I am grateful. I am so curious about other faiths and ways of worship, which is why I ask all these questions. So thanks for sharing! :)

Yes, about what you say about other religions... What I respect about Hindu, Buddhism and Krishna is that they respect other religions, that "there are many paths to enlightenment". But Christianity does not repsect that way. They believe only Christ Jesus is the one true god and all others are false. Being raised in Christianity there are aspects I believe in. I do belive strongly in God and pray everyday. I love Jesus, but now I read about recent schools of though that bring to light ...

Converting Religion in Mixed Marriage 5/24/2005 11:27:11 AM   (Total replies: 1)
HI, I wasn't sure where to post this, but my issue regards converting to the religion of my BF's family. They are Hindu from Punjab (living in America for many years) and go to a Hare Krishna temple and are very active in their temple here in America. Do you think it would be acceptable for me to convert to their religion? I don't think it is expected of me and I think they accept me anyway, but I have a few reasons for wanting to do so. I was raised mainly Catholic-Christian (CCD, ...

Hi! Hopefully someone may have some input here. My BF's Mother is from Punjab and his father is originally from Tanzania. He mentions spekaing in his mother tongue but also reads Sanskrit. What would be his mother tongue if he comes from Tanzania?
